Since our arrival in late 2008 we have grown our portfolio. Vattenfall operates six wind farms totalling 612MW in operation and another 314MW under construction.
By 2017, with a capacity of almost 1GW our onshore and offshore wind farms Vattenfall will be generating approximately 3TWh per year, offsetting 1.3 million tonnes of CO2* per year. However, we are not just committed to helping the UK achieve its carbon targets but to make a real contribution to local communities and the national economy; securing a sustainable energy future at the lowest possible cost to consumers. In taking projects forward we will build on a century of responsible energy development and operation across Northern Europe.
Business Unit Renewables
Vattenfall operate across the value chain, from development through to generation and energy trading.
UK Project Development
Vattenfall works with landowners, local communities and other key stakeholders to bring well-designed projects through the planning and consenting process. Currently, we are involved in a number of onshore projects across Wales, England and Scotland. We are also involved in offshore developments, at both the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre at Aberdeen Bay, and separately with our joint venture partners Scottish Power Renewables in the 7.2GW East Anglia Offshore Windfarm. Located approximately 8.5 to 13 km north of Herne Bay and Whitstable in Kent.
Ormonde Offshore Wind Farm
Located in the Irish Sea, 10 km.
Thanet Offshore Wind Farm
One of the world's largest offshore wind farms is located off the north east Kent coast.
Our onshore operational assets:
Edinbane Wind Farm
Situated on the Isle of Skye, Edinbane wind farm is an 18 turbine site.
Parc Cynog Wind Farm
The wind farm in South West Wales is an 11 turbine project.
Swinford Wind Farm
The 11 turbine project in Leicestershire project became operational in November 2012.
*Our calculations follow the RenewableUK formula, as follows: CO2 Reductions (p.a.) in tonnes uses DECC’s carbon saving figure of 430g/kWh. Carbon reduction is calculated by multiplying the installed wind energy capacity in megawatts by the average (onshore + offshore) load factor as a fractional percentage of 1 (e.g. 0.2782), multiplied by the number of hours in the year (8760), multiplied by the number of grammes of CO2 saved per kilowatt hour, divided by 1000 (to align the units, as grammes of CO2 is expressed in kWh).
