Vattenfall Europe AG, Berlin, has sold its 25 percent share in the Rostock hard-coal fired power plant to RheinEnergie AG, Cologne, with effect on 1 February 2011.
A purchase price in a low three-figure million-euro range was agreed. In addition, RheinEnergie is also acquiring the 24.6 percent share held by RWE AG, Essen, in the power plant. The remaining 50.4 percent continues to be held by EnBW AG.
“The sale of our share is the next step in our ongoing strategy of consistently divesting ourselves of our minority interest,” comments Tuomo Hatakka, CEO of Vattenfall Europe AG.
The Rostock power plant has an installed capacity of 553 megawatts and also supplies district heating to the grid operated by the Stadtwerke Rostock municipal works.
