Chelsea Will, Service Technician, Aberdeen Offshore Wind Farm
I’m 25 years old, from Peterhead and currently work as a service technician for Vattenfall, based at the Aberdeen Bay Wind Farm.
Prior to working at Vattenfall, I worked for Enercon, as a service technician on onshore wind turbines, and prior to that I was a trainee electrical technician at the St Fergus gas terminal, near my hometown of Peterhead.
I first got into the energy industry, almost by accident. I worked as a legal secretary with a local firm at the time and heard a radio advertisement looking for apprentices across a number of different fields. Feeling like I needed a change, something more challenging, I applied and didn’t really think I would hear back. However, it has now been 5/6 years since I started on this journey now.
When I decided to leave the oil and gas industry, it was mainly due to wanting to be involved in something I was more interested in. I really feel like everyone should do their part to protect the environment and try and reduce our carbon footprint, even things as small as recycling, re-using and not buying plastic packaged items when possible. Therefore, the renewables industry really appealed to me and I am very happy to now be part of a company such as Vattenfall, who have such big goals.
