Wind turbine construction

This image is illustrative and not intended as a fully accurate depiction of the project.

When constructing an offshore wind farm, wind turbines are assembled and tested on land to the greatest extent possible. They are then transported offshore by special crane-equipped installation vessels.

The parts that cannot be assembled on land are then assembled offshore: the tower onto its foundation followed by the nacelle (including hub) and finally the rotor blade.

The EOWDC will be building and testing the entire V164.8.4 MW turbine (consisting of tower, nacelle and blades) on land, in Esbjerg, Denmark and transporting it to Aberdeen Bay using special vessels for final assembly.
